| Q. |
Are the Modulette decking tiles approved for use on condominium balconies? |
| A. |
Yes, the tiles are practical and well suited for condo balconies, terraces and even rooftop patios, as they sit over the concrete flooring or roof material. In the many years we've been offering our Modulette tiles, we've yet to come across a single instance when a Condo or Townhouse board has disallowed their use.

Wood tiles versus recycled plastic tiles: What's the advantage of one over the other? |
| A. |
Depends on your preference, but both products look terrific and are low-maintenance. As we like to say, one is man-made, the other is God-made, take your pick.
The recycled plastic tiles never deteriorate, and will look as good in ten years as the day you installed them. Cleaning is easy, as you can simply damp-mop the tile surfaces.
Our Modulette wood tiles, which are pressure-treated after manufacturing, are guaranteed for 35 years against decay, rot and mildew. These will naturally weather, which is to be expected from any wood material exposed to the elements. Many people enjoy the rich patina look of weathered natural wood.

| Q. |
Can I stain the Modulette wood tiles? |
| A. |
Yes, you can stain the wood tiles to match any exterior color you want. But keep in mind, like the effort that goes in staining a house or deck, you will probably have to occasionally re-stain the wood tiles over the years, depending on their exposure to the weather elements.

| Q. |
Do I have to order a minimum number of tiles? |
| A. |
You only have to order a minimum number of tiles if we're doing the installation. When that happens, we have minimum requirement of 80 square feet, (20 tiles) which is the size of the average apartment balcony.
If it's a DIY project, and you're thinking of installing the tiles on your own, you can order any number of tiles. Or as few as one, if that's all you require. Seriously.

| |
| Q. |
What is the size of each tile? |
| A. |
Each tile, wood or recycled plastic, is 4 square feet or (2' x 2').
| |
| Q. |
How do I determine how many tiles to order? |
| A. |
Don't worry, if we're doing the installation, we'll come down and take the measurements for you. If you want a rough estimate of what you'll need, measure your area to the nearest even two feet in both directions. So if you deck or patio is 9'x 11', you really need to order 9'x 12'. But call us, and we'll help you figure it out.

| Q. |
I'm thinking of having the tiles installed over my existing backyard concrete pavers, which have heaved irregularly over the years. Can I place the tiles directly on top, or will I need to apply a base material topping first? |
| A. |
Our tiles are perfect for resurfacing materials existing pavers or patio stones. Normally we'll install timbers around the patio or deck shape to hold the tiles, and then add a thin layer of pea gravel to level any unevenness. This way there's no need to haul away the old stones or pavers, simply box-in the area, add the gravel, and lay the tiles snugly on top. Check out our installation page to see how it's done.

| Q. |
I have a lot of pine needles that fall in my back yard. If I have the tiles installed, how can I clean out the pine needles or leaves, so rot or mildew doesn't have a chance to set in? |
| A. |
You can easily blow or vacuum out the leaves or needles, or lift up the tiles up and sweep up the debris. As well, we also offer a professional cleaning service, in which we'll visit twice a year to re-lift the tiles, clean the balcony, re-lay the tiles, and properly set up everything again.
